Careers Communications Coordinator
Opportunity International Australia is seeking a creative, skilled and passionate Communications Coordinator to help Opportunity end poverty one family and one community at a time. The Communications Coordinator will focus on publications and content creation, work within the Communications team, and assist the wider Philanthropy department. The role is best suited to someone with a strong writing and storytelling ability—and an overwhelming desire to do good in the world.
About Opportunity International Australia
Opportunity International Australia provides small loans and financial services to families in need so they can grow their own businesses, earn sustainable incomes and lift themselves out of poverty with dignity. Opportunity also works to increase access to education and healthcare, while strengthening communities to reduce the risk of human trafficking and domestic violence.
Opportunity is part of the global Opportunity Network—a leading provider and pioneer of microfinance. Opportunity provides a hand up to millions of families in more than 20 countries around the world.
COVID-19 has affected us all; but is devastating vulnerable communities. Families living in poverty without savings, healthcare and a reliable income are most affected by a pandemic. Maintaining a reliable income to access food and healthcare continues to be challenging. For families living in poverty—many of whom already rely on intermittent work—this could mean months without a sole income source. Opportunity’s work is more important now than ever.
Working alongside the National Communications Manager and the Digital Coordinator, the Communications Coordinator will engage key Australian audiences to raise awareness about the issue of poverty and Opportunity’s work in poverty alleviation. The Communications Coordinator will play an ‘all-rounder’ Communications role within Opportunity and have a particular focus on content creation including writing high-quality content for the Opportunity website, social media platforms and publications as well as producing video.
The Communications Coordinator will utilise their skills to coordinate publication production, develop collateral and provide communications and marketing support. Preferably, the Communications Coordinator will have high-level organisational skills, some graphic design editing knowledge, as well as video editing skills to contribute to building Opportunity’s presence.
Additional focus will be given to media and PR opportunities, brand knowledge and adherence across the organisation.
The Communications Coordinator will work closely with the National Communications Manager to maintain, update and implement the Communications Strategy to support the wider organisational strategy and help achieve the organisation’s objectives.
