(Head of Marketing function, reporting directly to the CEO)

Full-time position 

Opportunity International Australia is seeking a National Marketing Manager to support our mission to help break the cycle of poverty for families living in Asia. Reporting to the CEO, the National Marketing Manager is a Philanthropy department head, responsible for leading the Marketing team and developing the Marketing strategy to drive acquisition, retention and revenue growth. Based in Sydney’s CBD, the role will suit a passionate, collaborative and creative leader with experience in the not-for-profit sector and alignment to our mission.

Role summary 

The National Marketing Manager is responsible for the development and execution of the Marketing strategy to support Opportunity’s revenue and supporter growth objectives. We are looking for a leader in Marketing to play a key role at a pivotal time for Opportunity as we establish a new vision, strategy and direction for the organisation. 

This is an exciting opportunity to use your expertise and experience to engage and inform Australians about Opportunity’s work and raise much-needed funds to help families around the world leave poverty behind. In this role, you will oversee core Marketing channels covering campaigns, regular giving, events and peer-to-peer fundraising across a range of online and offline channels (including direct marketing and digital marketing). Rich, diverse and rewarding, this role is suited to someone with creative flair, attention to detail and a focus on results and return on investment. The ability to constructively challenge conventional wisdom, recommend new and innovative marketing strategies, and grow a variety of revenue streams will all be considered highly.

The Marketing department plays a critical role within the organisation and works closely with all other departments. People-skills, a desire for collaboration and communication skills are a must. The role plays a leadership function, working closely with the National Communications Manager and National Development Manager, to oversee and lead the Philanthropy department.

A passion for international development to serve the world’s most disadvantaged, and an alignment with Opportunity’s mission, value and purpose, is critical.  

Core responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement an annual Marketing strategy to drive revenue growth and support the organisation’s objectives 
  • Manage and lead a passionate, highly skilled, thriving team dedicated and driven to deliver on the strategy   
  • Be a part of the Leadership Team for a well-respected, credible and impactful NGO   
  • Responsible for generating revenue through mass marketing campaigns, regular giving and community fundraising
  • Oversee the execution of Marketing activity including integrated campaign activity (online and offline), digital marketing activity, events, video production etc 
  • Responsible for the forecasting and management of the Marketing budget and expenditure  
  • Use business insights and analytics to assess, drive and measure activity 
  • Report on marketing activity to the CEO, Executives and Board  
  • Manage internal stakeholders and external agencies, partners and suppliers.

  • Proven track record in Marketing with demonstrated ability to create and deliver a highly profitable Marketing strategy 
  • Experience in a not-for-profit within a similar role responsible for delivering revenue and driving growth 
  • Strong managerial capacity both in strategy and results and demonstrated ability to lead, grow and nurture a team
  • Experience in managing integrated Marketing campaigns online and offline – with skills and understanding in the paid digital space 
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a dynamic, fast-paced and flexible team environment, juggling multiple projects to get the job done
  • Relevant tertiary qualification ideally (Business, Marketing or similar)
  • Experience in managing supporter and stakeholder relationships
  • Exceptional oral and written communications
  • Passion to help end global poverty.
