Careers Relationship Manager, Philanthropy

Full-time, Hybrid role (3 days per week in the CBD office)

As the Relationship Manager, Philanthropy (State Manager NSW/ACT), you will join a national team with a focus on raising much needed funds for Opportunity International Australia, whose vision is a world in which all people have the opportunity to achieve a life free from poverty, with dignity and purpose.

Opportunity International Australia and our Impact

By joining Opportunity, you become an integral part of a transformative mission that goes beyond fighting poverty - they aim to end it. Through innovative programs and microfinance initiatives, Opportunity creates sustainable pathways for economic growth, entrepreneurship, and financial inclusion.

Opportunity seeks to alleviate poverty in developing countries – one family and one community at a time. By providing small loans to families in need, Opportunity helps them grow their own businesses and generate sustainable incomes so they can lift themselves out of poverty with dignity.

To break the cycle of poverty for good, Opportunity also increases families’ access to healthcare and quality education, while strengthening communities to reduce the risk of gender-based violence – creating a new future for generations to come.

The Role

Due to an internal promotion, the team is growing. In this position you will lead the NSW/ACT relationship fundraising portfolio and be responsible for acquiring financial support from individuals (70%), commercial organisations (10%), trusts and foundations (20%).

You will report to and work closely with a passionate and driven Head of Fundraising. As part of a collaborative national team of five, you will manage your region's portfolio of donors with a focus on retention, upgrade and new relationships , making strategic asks that result in income generation.

Responsibilities

  • Qualify a portfolio of NSW/ACT donors and supporters who have previously given generously to the organisation.
  • Develop a personalised and tailored supporter journey for your portfolio.
  • Build strong, lasting relationships with a focus on getting to know your donors’ passions and interests and offering opportunities for investment that align with these.
  • Maintain the retention and upgrade goals of your portfolio.
  • Work collaboratively with the program team to understand their work in order to develop compelling proposals and impact reports.
  • Regularly report on your personal activity and portfolio pipeline and results.
  • In addition to your business as usual relationship management, have a desire to represent Opportunity at forums, events, expos and conferences.

Your skills and attributes

  • Opportunity is motivated by the parable of the Good Samaritan, therefore an alignment with the values of the Christian ethos  will be key to your success in this role.
  • An experienced fundraising relationship manager from the not for profit sector, or extensive experience driving long-term, high-value individual relationships in the commercial sector.
  • Confident, proactive , and personable.
  • Strong, professional communicator coupled with a love of best-practice process.
  • Strong administration skills and the ability to execute on a plan, comfortable working within a small, hands-on team.
  • Flexibility for occasional regional travel to connect with supporters.
  • A willingness to travel overseas with supporters to witness the impact their gifts have on families building lives free from poverty.

Benefits

  • Sydney CBD-based office with flexibility to WFH 2 days per week
  • Caring and collaborative team that enjoys a strong sense of purpose and a supportive environment
  • A range of generous leave options
  • Access to a first-class EAP to support wellbeing
