Enjoying good food is an important part of many cultures, bringing friends, families and even communities together like nothing else.

Over the last few years, Opportunity has seen supporters like you host meals in September as part of our Food for Thought campaign, raising much-needed funds for families living in poverty.

And for the first time ever, we would love to share a special meal with all our Opportunity family to kick off Food for Thought this year.

Join us at Subcontinental, a fantastic restaurant that offers a modern take on Indian cuisine in the latest culinary venue from Sam Christie and the team from Longrain.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS

  • Experience a live-stream cooking demonstration from the Philippines. Meet Dina Lava, an entrepreneur who began her business knocking on office doors with a basket of pastries and now runs a renowned catering business, function centre and bakery.
  • Meet the talented head chefs behind Subcontinental, Longrain’s Susanto Bun and Chanaka Gunasekara – hear their story and share in their inspiration and passion for food.
  • Bask in the flavours of India to bring to life the cuisine and culture of one of the countries where your support makes a difference.
  • Be encouraged to start your own Food for Thought fundraiser!

MEET DINA LAVA FROM THE PHILIPPINES

In 1989 Dina Lava had a dream to start a sweets and pastry business. She started small, knocking on office doors armed with a basket of pastries. Now, thanks to a loan from Opportunity, she runs a successful catering business, function centre and even distributes pastries state wide. In 2003 she was awarded the Most Outstanding Businesswoman by the Department of Trade and Industry.

SUBCONTINENTAL

Sydney needs more places like this – venues where you can drop in for a couple hours or stay all night and feast; Subcontinental offers a good time, great eats and zero pretension. We’ve waited too long for Indian food like this.
