What's it like working at Opportunity?
Opportunity cultivates a friendly, professional culture and promotes a workplace where people treat each other with dignity, fairness and respect. Continually aiming to improve our culture, we seek feedback from team members via open dialogue and staff surveys.
All team members are provided with an employee handbook on induction, outlining organisational policies and practices, such as work health & safety, privacy, travel and complaints policies.
Opportunity is committed to the growth and development of its people and ensuring they are trained to carry out their current jobs and equipped in time to perform future roles. In addition to initial orientation and a comprehensive induction process, there are professional development opportunities and a culture of learning through self-development and continuous training.
Our ‘Star Performer Award’ is a reward given to team members that have achieved outstanding results or demonstrated exemplary behaviour. Nominations, based on a specific achievement/behaviour, are proposed by all staff on a monthly basis.
Team members will be aligned to our mission and values and understand our motivation. Our motivation is in response to Jesus Christ’s call to love and serve the poor, serving all people regardless of their race, faith, ethnicity and gender.
We provide opportunities for team social events and former team members are invited to stay in touch with Opportunity via our alumni group and newsletter, providing updates on programs and Opportunity news.
As a child-safe organisation, Opportunity has a Child Protection Policy in place and requires staff to sign and comply with our Child Protection Code of Conduct and undergo a criminal record check.
Opportunity values its people and offers flexible working arrangements to meet the needs of our workers and help them balance their work-life and personal commitments. Our Health and Wellbeing program aims to create a positive and supportive environment where healthy lifestyle choices are valued and encouraged.
Opportunity offers a range of leave options to help employees manage other priorities in their lives including parental leave, study leave, leave without pay, career break, personal/carer’s leave and compassionate leave.
As a Public Benevolent Institution, Opportunity is presently exempt from paying Fringe Benefits Tax on benefits paid to its employees (subject to certain caps and restrictions). This means eligible employees may be able to take advantage of salary packaging to lower their taxable income thereby increasing their net salary.
