Dear friends,

As you are all aware, the world is currently facing uncertainty in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our concern will always be with those whom we seek to serve – people who are amongst the world’s most vulnerable. But our concern is also with our Australian staff, with our implementing partners on the ground – and with you. I pray that you all remain safe and healthy during this time.

The work that you so generously support, is centred in India, Indonesia, and now, Bangladesh – countries with deeply entrenched poverty, lack of access to health care and health systems that are already stretched.

Thankfully our program partners have not reported any cases of COVID-19 in the communities which you support. We are monitoring this situation closely and will update you as necessary.

This pandemic has highlighted the importance of our programs and particularly those involving health. Right now, our Community Health Facilitators—women who were initially trained through your support—are undergoing intensive awareness training and in turn are conducting preventive education sessions in the communities in which they work and in schools.

But none of this can happen without you. We need your support now more than ever. The full impact and duration of the COVID-19 pandemic is yet to be realised – but what is certain is that it will devastate the most vulnerable. 

Together, we will get through this challenging time.
